The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that former Steelers kicker Jeff Reed received several offers from NFL teams about kicking jobs, including an offer from the Bengals, but decided that it was best not to kick this weekend, his agent Don Henderson said. Reed was released from the Steelers earlier this week after missing a field goal in Sunday’s loss to the Patriots and criticizing Heinz Field conditions.
Reed cleared waivers on Wednesday and had offers from two teams, both of whom wanted the kicker to start this weekend. Henderson said that his client was receptive to the Bengals, but just decided that it was best not to kick this weekend.
“We thought it would be better for Jeff to recharge and get ready for the rest of the season,” Henderson said. “We’ll start listening to offers again on Sunday or Monday.”
The Bengals’ starting kicker, Mike Nugent, may be out for the remainder of the season with an injury.
